Hello! My name is Dave Espe and I am running for Eden Prairie School Board.
Eden Prairie has long had a reputation for excellence in education, and this is a major reason why I chose to live in Eden Prairie when I returned to Minnesota 12 years ago.
However, over the past several years a number of concerns have arisen that need to be addressed and resolved. The school board and administration have moved forward with very controversial and expensive initiatives that are putting a serious financial strain on the district and its taxpayers. In addition, the school board and the administration have communicated very poorly with the district's stakeholders (parents, residents and taxpayers).
I am running for school board on the following platform:
In 2012, the school board will have the opportunity to select a new superintendent, and it is imperative that we select someone who has significant experience, who communicates well with everyone (school board, teachers, parents), and who will lead us on the path to excellence. We will also need to take a detailed examination of our budget and make some tough choices on spending and a possible referendum.
As an Eden Prairie school board member, I will commit to ensuring that our children receive a great, well rounded education and to ensure that every child is enabled to reach their full potential. I will work with the teachers, parents, and administration to best serve the needs of all our children and to make the most effective and efficient use of our funds. I will communicate with our stakeholders to ensure that all voices within the district are heard.

- Enhance the learning environment and opportunities for all students so that they may all achieve an outstanding public school education.
- Improve the relationship between the school board and the administration by conveying appropriate responsibilities from the board to the superintendent, and establishing measurable goals and objectives.
- Track and monitor all major initiatives to ensure that the original goals are being achieved.
- Implement a budget that is financially prudent and ensures that a majority of our dollars are directed into the classroom.
- Restore stakeholder confidence in the school board and administration through open and honest public communication.
